Xcore provides components to create low cost, energy efficient devices that offer similar power and cost savings as ARM based CPUs but that are able to run standard x86 solutions. The x86 instruction set continues to the platform most favored by integrators who need to develop a quick solution and to be able to support a wide variety of peripheral devices and application challenge.
ARM based solutions are ideal for custom devices that will sell in hundreds of thousands of units or more but for integrators wishing to develop a solution for a few hundred or thousand users, ARM solutions typically require too much software development investment.
The Xcore86 and Xcore86+ provide the tools for integrators to offer low cost, energy efficient solutions that will run the same software and operating systems as laptops and desktops. Xcore offers its technologies as complete devices on chip or complete devices on modules. The "device on modules" contain the CPU and RAM on a plug in module that can easily be mated with a simple 2 layer PCB that provides only the power supply and I/O.
Today many applications embed a standard PC even though the PC draws a lot of power, requires a fan and costs more than is necessary. Virtually every ATM has a PC inside driving the system. An ATM designer could easily run their software on the Xcore86+ module and create a simple 2 layer interface board that would rive the entire ATM. Such approach will save money, space, power and will be more reliable. Using the Xcore86+ module would not require any adjustment to the existing software that currently runs on PC.
There are millions of applications where the Xcore86 would provide the same computing capability as current computing solutions but will be smaller, more energy efficient and more reliable. Among these applications are:
POS
Thin Clients
Access Control Devices
Biometric Systems
ATM Machines
Kiosks
Bank Teller Terminals
Car Rental Reservation Systems
Xcore currently provides products based on the Xcore86 and Xcore86 that are ready to use for integrators not wanting to do their own PCB board design. These products include:
EduBook -- An ultra low cost laptop designed primarily for K to 6 students in developing countries. The EduBook is powered by 8 standard AA NiMH batteries, making it much less expensive to support than Typical LiIon batteries.
The EduBook is also an ideal platForm for system developers to use to create custom computing solutions with screen.
The JrMX is a small computer that serves as an ideal platform for POS, Access Control, thin client, Biometrics, Music Server and many other applications. New versions of the JrMX support up to 3 NICs or up to 4 RS232 ports.
The SurfBoard is a complete computer built into a standard QWERTY keyboard. The SurfBoard is an ideal space saving device for thin clients. kiosks, dedicated workstations, Internet Cafes, School Labs, Libraries and many other applications.
Xcore has a unique set of building blocks that include our own Xcore86 Device on Chip (TM) (DoC) that allows us to build smaller, more energy efficient and less expensive computing devices.
